Description
The tooling for the 1938 “Streamline” version of the Dietz D-Lite was reworked in 1958 to produce the #8 Air Pilot to satisfy the continuing demand for “Air Pilot” lanterns formerly produced by the Embury Manufacturing Company, which was purchased by Dietz in December, 1953. Production of the #8 Air Pilot continued in the Dietz Syracuse factory until 1970 when the last of the tooling was relocated to Hong Kong. It is the last “Streamline” model still produced by Dietz. The #8 Air Pilot is the only “#2” size lantern currently produced that uses the #272 rising cone burner.
